"A friend was noticing behavior problems with her 9 year old son, but she couldn’t pinpoint the cause…  until the teacher sent home a letter detailing the “cooking projects”  the class was doing and how much the kids enjoyed eating their creations.  Despite the inclusion of “no food except provided from home”  was in the IEP, her child was given PIZZA, COOKIES – gluten, casein, gluten, gluten, & casein.

I was horrified on behalf of my friend, but it echoes our experience in public school.  I was repeatedly told by the teacher my child would probably never talk and that her dietary restrictions weren’t having an impact.  There are good and bad apples in every bunch, but there are probably quite a few parents who are being treated as if they don’t know anything, and the school system knows your child better than you do.  At MDE, my child is more than an Autism label.

I never questioned why my child engaged in certain behaviors at school, and quite frankly, didn’t want to go.  At MDE, my child is treated exactly the way she is treated at home and her behavior at school reflects this.  In three months at MDE, my daughter’s language skills have easily progressed six months.

While school should be an environment where children are safe and happy, children also need to be pushed and held accountable to reach their full potential.  It shouldn’t take 6 months to learn a new skill a child can master in 2 months.  A parent shouldn’t have to worry about a children regressing in school. At this critical time in my child’s development, I shouldn’t worry about 5 unproductive hours every day.  I feel fortunate to have found a school that reflects my parenting beliefs, and it shows in my daughter’s progress." - Laura Bosak

"The transformation of my 4 year old ASD daughter has been incredible!  She is learning her continents, how to sit and complete tasks, how to listen.  How to socialize and follow directions all within the first two months.  If anyone told me she would be doing this well in such a short time I wouldn’t have believed it.  Mindy and Donna are the dynamic duo who see my daughter as I see her; instead of seeing her disabilities, they see her capability.  I am so grateful for them and MDE and can’t wait to see the continuing emergence of my daughter and her possibilities." - Amanda Lewis

"Words can’t express how it feels to leave my son in a safe environment with experienced, caring people.  A place where he feels loved and can learn and excel to the best of his ability.  Thank you!" - Angie Monday
